Shadbolt's assistant 'on leave'
Poll: Tim Shadbolt's bad luck with personal assistants appears to be continuing.
The Invercargill mayor's assistant, Marie Auckram, is "on leave" and was expected back at the Invercargill City Council next week, but it is understood she will not be returning to her role.
Council chief executive Richard King was tightlipped on the matter yesterday, saying only that Ms Auckram was due to return to the council on Monday after several weeks of leave. She has been in the role for only 10 months. She could not be contacted yesterday.
Mr Shadbolt conceded he'd had several assistants in the past couple of years but that included "a series of temps just filling in the gaps".
He was "out of town" when Ms Auckram went on leave and was unsure of the reasons behind it.
"All these sort of issues are dealt with by Richard King."
The relationship between Mr Shadbolt and Ms Auckram had been "going well", the mayor said.
"[She was] very good to work with and people were very impressed with her."
In 2012, Aisha Williams was given a fulltime role as Mr Shadbolt's assistant after the council decided to hire a separate PA for Mr Shadbolt, who had been sharing assistants with Mr King. She lasted six months.
Mr Shadbolt then went through several temporary PAs before Ms Auckram was appointed to the role.
