Police in Queenstown are waiting to check CCTV footage to identify a man who allegedly stole $1200 while he was meant to be buying drinks.

Sergeant Steve Watt, of Queenstown, said the theft was reported yesterday at 9am.

The victim was drinking in a bar at Steamer Wharf and gave his bank card and the Pin to a stranger to buy more drinks. However, the stranger left the bar and used the card to withdraw $1200 from the victim's account.

Police were also searching for the men who allegedly smashed a window in Ballarat St on Friday at 10.15pm.

Four men who were out for after-work drinks were asked to leave 1876 bar.

As they were leaving, two members of the group kicked off, assaulted two bouncers and smashed a window.

CCTV footage already helped to identify two of the men and police were continuing inquiries before making any arrests.

On Saturday at 4pm, an Indian family driving in Kawarau Rd toward Queenstown Airport was involved in a two-car crash.

The family's rental vehicle stopped suddenly and a vehicle rear-ended their car.

No-one was injured but police were considering whether to lay charges, Mr Watt said.
