Hunters activate beacon on Stewart Island
A rescue helicopter sent to Stewart Island after a beacon activation has transported a woman to hospital.
Rescue Co-ordination Centre New Zealand spokeswoman Sarah Brazil said a search and rescue helicopter was sent to the island after a beacon was activated at 4.30pm this afternoon.
Initially rescuers were unsure what to expect, with the activation by a group of 11 hunters, but only one required assistance, she said.
The helicopter transported the woman to hospital with a suspected broken ankle about 7pm.
The rest of the group were carrying on with their hunting, she said.
