Hawea residents are advised to boil their drinking water after routine testing found low levels of e-coli in the town's reticulated supply.
The Queenstown Lakes District Council, in a statement, says the requirement to boil water for drinking and food preparation will remain until three days of testing show a negative result and chlorinate will be added to the supply as a precaution.
The source had not been identified but the most common source of e-coli in lake-sourced water was run-off from surrounding land, the statement says.
