Smoke alarm saves occupants
Invercargill firefighters battled a Tweed St house from the roof as they fought to get it under control this morning.
All of the people inside the house managed to get out.
A Fire Service spokesperson said the occupants were alerted to the fire by a smoke alarm and managed to escape in time.
Four fire crews were called to the south Invercargill house at 8.11am.
Southern Fire Communications shift manager Mau Barbara said the house was "well ablaze" when the crews arrived.
