Strong winds have created havoc with powerlines and kept fire crews in the region busy.
The Clinton volunteer fire brigade put out a hedge fire started by a downed powerline in Estate Rd yesterday afternoon.
A fire service spokesman said the fire was quickly contained and power was restored.
The Arrowtown volunteer fire brigade had two callouts in two hours last night after powerlines came into contact with trees because of the wind.
There was a bit of smoke at each incident but nothing serious, the spokesman said.
