The Clinton Highway (SH1) is down to one lane, 15km south of Balclutha, after a crash involving a logging truck and tractor.

Only one lane is open to traffic while police conduct a scene examination near the Moa Hill Road turn-off.

The two trailer logging truck and the tractor, which was towing a baler wrapper unit, were both travelling south when the accident occurred  about lunchtime.

While inquiries are still under way, one emergency services officer at the scene said it appeared as though the truck tried to overtake the tractor.

The road was only two lanes wide where the crash happened.

Nobody was injured and police were talking to both drivers.
