Latest chapter in fundraising tradition
The "enormously popular" annual Bluff book sale will be held this weekend.
The Bluff Promotions fundraising event will be held at the St John Ambulance hall, Lee St, tomorrow and Sunday.
Bluff Promotions chairman Steve Mitchell said the event, held the same weekend as the Lands End Garden Club Flower Show and the Bluff Community Market, usually drew hundreds of eager buyers.
Thousands of books had been donated from Bluff and further afield, including some even returned from last year's sale, he said.
Everything from paperback novels to "how-to books on everything" would be available and "anything else you can think of", Mr Mitchell said. Puzzles, games and DVDs would also be available.
Bluff Promotions officer Lindsay Beer said the occasion usually raised more than $1000.
The organisation would use this year's proceeds for community projects. Doors will be open from 10am each day.
The flower show, held in conjunction with the Southland Dahlia Circle, will be held at the Te Rau Aroha Marae from 1.30pm to 4.30pm tomorrow and 11am to 4pm on Sunday. Admission is $3 for adults, 50c for secondary students and free for primary and preschool children. The cost also covers afternoon tea and admission to the show at the marae.
The Bluff Community Market will be held on the corner of Palmer and Foyle streets tomorrow morning and will offer produce, crafts and plants.
