An investigation into the incident where 8-year-old George Crotty, of Luggate, was seriously injured after falling from an inflatable obstacle course is being conducted by WorkSafe New Zealand.

George was playing on the large blow up climbing wall and bouncy castle at the Pisa Moorings Restaurant on January 23 when it was believed a ''freak gust of wind'' blew the course off its pegs and over the roof of the restaurant.

A witness said he thought the boy dropped about two metres before hitting his head on a concrete path about five metres away from where the inflatable course sat.

He was airlifted to Dunedin Hospital with serious head injuries and remained in a serious condition while being flown to the Wilson Centre in Auckland on February 5.
