Tuatapere shearer Leon Samuels won the speed shearing competition at the Gore Southern Shears.
The Friday night event was at the Albion Excelsior club rooms, with spectators filling the building to watch the action.
Samuels took out first prize, with Joe Tumohe second and John Kirkpatrick third.
Kirkpatrick, of Hawkes Bay, won the Gore Southern Shears open title and the South Island shearer of the year title before flying to Pukekohe yesterday to compete in the Counties Shears.
Mataura shearer Brett Roberts won the Gore Southern Shears senior final and New Zealand took out the shearing test against Wales.
The woolhandlers also competed on Friday, with Keryn Herbert of Te Awamutu winning back-to-back titles after success at the Balclutha Shears last weekend.
Gore Southern Shears president Chas Tohiarik said severalUnited Kingdom shearers competed over the two days, with a quarter of the junior category made up of international shearers.
Next year would be a landmark for the Gore Southern Shears as they reached the 50th year of the annual event.
