The West Coast was shaken by an earthquake early this morning that was felt as far south as Invercargill.
GeoNet reported a "severe" magnitude 5 quake 65 kilometres west of Haast.
The earthquake struck at 2.50am and was 8km deep.
Reports on GeoNet said it was felt in Invercargill in the south and Christchurch in the east.
