The search for a missing Taieri woman is being stepped up today.
Gae Denise Pantel, 67, was last seen about 8.30 on Tuesday night at the home of a friend she was staying with on Riccarton Rd East. is being stepped up today.
Police search and rescue teams with up to 30 members from Oamaru and Balclutha are part of the operation today and residents of the East Taieri area, including those with outlying farm buildings, are being asked to check their properties for any sign of the missing woman.
Mrs Pantel suffers from ill health and was believed to have been confused in recent days.
Last night, police and search and rescue volunteers searched an area near the address where Mrs Pantel had been staying. Her car, credit cards and phone were all left at that address.
"As time goes by, clearly our concerns for Mrs Pantel's wellbeing are mounting and we are keen to hear from anyone who thinks they might have seen her in the past two days," Sergeant Kevin Davidson, of Mosgiel, said.
Mrs Pantel is of slight build and short. While it's not known what clothing she might be wearing, it is likely to be similar to the clothing in the photograph; and although she is wearing glasses in the photograph, it is not believed that was wearing them when she went missing.
Anyone who has seen Mrs Pantel since Tuesday evening or has information that could assist with the search could contact the Southern District Command Centre on 471-5002.
