Hangi marks end of celebrations
SIT O Week 2014HANNAH MCLEOD AND LAUREN HAYES
Southern Institute of Technology students enjoyed the final day of O Week celebrations with a Hangi at the Tay st campus today.
Enough food to feed 300 people was on offer, as well as the final round of a talent competition, and a few giveaways as well.
With the gumboots and bucking bull featuring yesterday, students could be forgiven for thinking they were on a farm.
Many of yesterday's orientation events, which included a gumboot-throwing contest and a mechanical bucking bull, had an agricultural flavour.
Building and construction student Joseph Wyeth was one of the brave few who tried his luck on the bull, being bucked off into the inflatable bull ring after a short ride.
The experience was a bit of fun, and he had ridden a real bull several times before, he said.
Students also took advantage of the sunshine to shoot hoops alongside Southern Steel netballers and Southland Sharks basketball players on a makeshift court at the campus.
