A Southland man has been cleared on two of three charges he faced in the Invercargill District Court.
Vinny Vinesh Kumar Ram, 51, was charged with unlawfully detaining a woman, assaulting her and assaulting her with intent to injure on July 16.
His jury trial started on Wednesday, with the jury returning its verdicts yesterday afternoon.
The jury acquitted Ram on the unlawfully detaining and assault with intent to injure charges but found him guilty on the male assaults female charge.
The Crown had alleged Ram punched the woman, prevented her from leaving his house and grabbed her by the neck twice, however the defence maintained he had not detained her, and any contact had either been accidental or in self defence.
Judge Michael Turner remanded Ram on bail to April 3 for sentence.
