Thousands of people have converged on the small Central Otago town of Ranfurly today, including over 500 cavalcaders who joined the town's annual Art Deco parade.

The horse and wagon riders have spent the past week trekking over nine trails around the region. 

Cavalcade spokesman Terry Davis said it was wonderful to see such a big crowd turn out for the festivities.

The cavalcade, run by the Otago Goldfields Heritage Trust, was in it 22nd year, he said.
