SDHB misses targets

Southern health services have shown little improvement in the first quarter of this financial year according to a report by the Ministry of Health.

The 2013/2014 first quarter Health Targets report shows the Southern District Health Board failed to achieve nationally set services targets in four out of seven areas.

Emergency Department wait times and access to elective surgeries both showed decrease performance in comparison to the national target.

However wait times for cancer treatment, help for smokers wanting to quit and access to heart and diabetes checks were marginally higher than the national target.
