A house in Gore was badly damaged in a blaze last night and a Clutha Valley shed was destroyed in a suspicious fire this morning.

Fire crews responded to the fire in Raceway Ln about 11pm.

A fire communications spokesman said the initial report was a house and garage were on fire with someone possibly inside the building. However, fire crews established everyone was out of the house, which was fully ablaze, the spokesman said.

Extra fire crews were called in from Mataura and Pukerau and firefighters were at the scene for nearly six hours and eventually put out the fire.

There were no reports of injuries and the fire was not being treated as suspicious.

Meanwhile, a shed has gone up in flames on property in the Clutha Valley early this morning.

The fire is being treated as suspicious.

Fire crews from the Clutha Valley and Balclutha and Tapanui fire brigades were called to the property on Paisley Rd at 1.20am.

Southern Fire Communications shift manager Brent Dunn said the implement shed and workshop was destroyed in the blaze.

The shed was also being used to store hay, he said.

The fire was being treated as suspicious and fire investigators and police had been called in, he said.
