New Zealand pair miss out
Southland's Tom Scully, along with team mate Shane Archbold, finished eighth in the madison event at the world track cycling championships in Colombia today.
Scully had rode an outstanding race to claim silver in the 40km race points race on Sunday and was hoping to back that up with a medal in the madison on the final day of the World Championships today.
However, they had to settle for eighth.
A group of Scully's supporters gathered at Cycle Surgery yesterday to cheer him on.
Scully works and stays at Cycle Surgery when he returns to Southland to train or compete.
Southland riders have been outstanding at the 2014 World Championships with all three riders from the province picking up medals.
Scully's silver in the points race was joined by Eddie Dawkins having early anchoring the gold medal-winning team sprint and Pieter Bulling was also part of the New Zealand team pursuit squad which won bronze.
