Man dies after jetboat crash

A man died in hospital after a jet boat accident near Haast on Friday evening.

Roualeyn Munro, 62, of Otematata was travelling in a private jet boat on Friday when the accident happened about 7pm.

Three other people were uninjured in the crash. The four were in a private jet boat, which hit a rock and flipped, throwing all the occupants into the river. All were wearing lifejackets.

Munro was air-lifted to Grey Base Hospital, where he died on Saturday.

They were on the Waiatoto River near Haast. There will be an investigation into the accident.
