Children and sea creatures met today at Omaui Beach as part of Seaweek.

The trip, organised for Makarewa Playcentre pupils and parents, was done as part of Playcentre awareness week and Seaweek.

The children had to identify sea creatures and other items found on the rocky shore.

Playcentre parent Kate Minehan said it gave the children an understanding of what lives at the beach and taught them respect for nature.

"We don't take the creatures or disturb them too much. If we pick them up to look more closely then we make sure we put them back where they belong," she said.
