A Russian man with an interest in aerial photography sparked complaints to police in Queenstown when his remote control mini-helicopter was spotted hovering outside hotel rooms.

Senior constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said police were called on Thursday at 8am by Rees hotel residents who were concerned the man may be using a ''quadra-copter'' to view into guests' rooms.

Police spoke to the 26-year-old man and the matter was resolved, he said.
