One person is dead and three others injured after a car and truck crash near Invercargill.
Police remain at the scene in the area of Boundary and Motu Rimu roads, south of Invercargill.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken, of Dunedin police, said four people were trapped inside the vehicle and one person had died after a car and truck collision before 1pm.
Three others had been taken to Southland Hospital, one with head injuries and two with minor injuries, he said.
Mr Aitken could not yet release details about the deceased, including whether the deceased was a New Zealander or was driving the vehicle at the time of the crash.
The body has been removed from the crash site, but Boundary Rd is expected to remain closed at the intersection of Bay View Rd until the vehicles are removed from the scene.
