Two Invercargill sisters hope to improve the health of the community through a series of free meditation classes.

Gina and Kathryn Shakespear have practised Falun Dafa, also known as Falun Gong, for more than 10 years.

Falun Dafa is an old Chinese spiritual discipline consisting of moral teachings, four gentle standing exercises and a sitting meditation.

The sisters plan to run free community meditation classes in five southern towns starting this week.

"Falun Dafa has really helped me to become a better person inside and out," Gina Shakespear said.

"My health has improved greatly, I'm very grateful for this."

The sisters had run similar classes in the Coromandel last year and the turnout had been good.

The pair said they were passionate about introducing the health benefits of the meditation to the public and were looking forward to meeting people to share the practise with them.
