Tourist considered fit and healthy
JOHN EDENS IN QUEENSTOWN
A 57-year-old Canadian tourist who collapsed and died in his Queenstown hotel unit was considered fit and healthy, police said today.
Senior constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said police were called at 4pm yesterday to a Gorge Rd hotel after the man collapsed and was unable to be resuscitated.
Fire Service volunteers with a defibrillator and St John attended.
The death was referred to the coroner for a post-mortem.
Mr Blackford said family told police the man was considered healthy and he regularly went to the gym and ran.
Yesterday, he and other family members walked up Queenstown hill and returned to the unit about 1.30pm.
The man went upstairs for a shower after lunch and collapsed a short time later.
