Teachers reinvent the jandal
Jandals - the most humble of footwear - have been completely reimagined by a troupe of Southland teachers.
A Polyfest teachers' jandal-making workshop was held at James Hargest College junior campus last night, giving teachers an opportunity to explore their artistic talents ahead of this year's festival.
James Hargest art teacher Melanie Larsen said the key to making a good jandal was plenty of imagination, creativity and no rules. There were some fantastic examples of creative jandals coming together, she said.
Polyfest co-ordinator Lisa Tou-McNaughton said the workshop was a fun way to stir up people's creativity as well as learn skills to take back to their classrooms.
The workshop was open to 20 teachers from across the region.
Polyfest Cultural Festival is at the ILT Stadium Southland from August 26 to 29.
