Steven Hill has been announced as the new chief executive officer for the Clutha District Council.

Hill, from Tauranga, will start in June.

Clutha Mayor Bryan Cadogan said he was delighted Hill had been appointed.

"Steven's enthusiasm, intellect and vast experience augurs well for the Clutha District's future".

Hill was the group manager for customer services at Western Bay of Plenty District Council, where he had worked in varying roles.

He holds a management studies degree from Waikato University and a masters in public management from Victoria University.

Married, with two adult children, Hill travelled widely through prior service in the Royal New Zealand Navy.

He replaces Charles Hakkaart who stepped down in January after 24 years at the council.
