Throngs of people are expected to celebrate the official opening of Winton's walking track on Saturday.
The event signals the culmination of three years' work in a project spearheaded by Lachie McGregor with support from the Winton Rotary Club.
The 9km walkway around Winton crosses several private properties and opens up scenic parts of the town which might not otherwise be experienced.
Clutha Southland MP Bill English will officially open the track, while Winton's Joan Hodges will cut the ribbon on behalf of the residents who have let the track to access their properties.
McGregor said it was a great asset for the town.
"The big thing is that people are out there using it and that's what makes it so rewarding."
Winton people are invited to the opening, at 2pm, at the walk track by the old school house on Moores Rd.
