Second win for top farming couple

Kaiwera farmers Andrew and Heather Tripp have won the supreme award in the 2014 Southland Ballance Farm Environment Awards (BFEA) for the second time.
The couple, who farm sheep, beef and dairy on their 1635 hectare property Nithdale Station, won the supreme title in the inaugural Southland BFEA back in 2002.
More than 300 people attended this year's awards ceremony at the Ascot Park Hotel in Invercargill.Since 2002, the Tripps had converted part of their farm to dairy and now milked more than 800 cows.
The Tripps also won four merit awards - the Ballance Agri-Nutrients Soil Management Award, LIC Dairy Farm Award, Massey University Discovery Award and the Alliance Quality Livestock Award.
Meanwhile, Gorge Road dairy farmers Mark and Deborah Hamill picked up the PGG Wrightson Land and Life Award, WaterForce Integrated Water Management Award and the Donaghys Farm Stewardship Award.
Otapiri Gorge farming brothers Robert and Cameron Grant won the Beef + Lamb Livestock Award, Hill Laboratories Harvest Award and Meridian Energy Excellence Award.
