Border alert at Q'town Airport
JOHN EDENS IN QUEENSTOWN
A Fijian man was arrested at Queenstown Airport yesterday allegedly in disguise and carrying a false passport, police said today.
Senior constable Chris Blackford, of Queenstown, said a 53-year-old man was arrested as he tried to leave New Zealand bound for Australia at 4pm.
A border alert was triggered when he presented an allegedly false Australian passport and he was arrested for an outstanding charge of wounding with intent.
Blackford said the man was previously deported from New Zealand.
''He fronted up with a hat, scarf and sunglasses. He was using an Aussie passport in a very European name.''
He is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court later today.
