Highlander Lex Lawrence waits at Te Anau Lodge for the organisers of the Te Anau Tartan Festival to collect the senior men’s trophy that his son Christopher won at last year’s festival.

Te Anau residents are gearing up for a big weekend with a Scottish theme. The Te Anau Tartan Festival kicks off tomorrow night, with festivities continuing on Saturday and Sunday.

Activities during the three days include a whisky appreciation evening, highland piping, dancing, drumming, family sports and Scottish and aviation themed family fun.

Tartan Festival committee chairwoman Kirsty Pickett said the townsfolk were looking forward to the festival, with shops decorating their windows and staff dressing up to be a part of the festivities.
