NZ Army territorial forces Private Glen Ballam teaches Southland Boys' High year seven and eight students how to stand at ease and to attention during a training session to celebrate them learning about ANZAC day at the school this week.

Teacher Geoff Folster said the students had been studing ANZAC day, and celebrated the last day of term by dressing up like soldiers, tasting food that soldiers would have eaten ''back in the day'', practising first aid, and with a half hour fitness session with the Invercargill territorials.

''It's a positive finish to term,'' Folster said.
