A boat has been reported missing, launching an air search near Stewart Island, police say.
Senior Sergeant Kelvin Lloyd, of Dunedin, said the boat was reported missing today after not arriving at Stewart Island as scheduled on Tuesday or Wednesday.
At this stage police were hoping the vessel was hunkered down in a bay somewhere because of the weather, and the air search was focussing on potential mooring sites in the area, he said.
More information was expected soon, he said.
