A Southland community is in shock after a crash that killed three men.
The men died after their Toyota Hilux ute left the Riversdale-Waikaia road and hit the edge of a concrete bridge just before midnight last night, police said.
Two of the men were aged in their late 30s and another man was in his late 50s.
Locals spoken to in Riversdale today, near the crash site, were stunned by the news.
One resident, who wanted to remain anonymous, said he had received 40 phone calls during the morning and everyone had been devastated.
He said two of the men who died in the crash had young children.
"It's just shocking. It's two communities that have been affected, Waikaia and Riversdale. We can only support the families. It's just huge. It was on Anzac Day, how terrible was that."
Local residents said the three were farmers in the Wendon area between Waikaia and Riversdale.
