A spate of tagging that has defaced numerous properties in the Invercargill central business district appears to have been done by the same people who vandalised Stadium Southland.

Senior Sergeant Maggie Windle, of Invercargill, said a flurry of tagging at the weekend had the same logo as those that appeared on ILT Stadium Southland last week.

Police were now beefing up foot patrols and trawling through CCTV footage in an effort to apprehend the culprits. "We are taking this seriously."

Police have not arrested anybody in relation to the tagging at the stadium after the line of inquiry went cold.

"We have eliminated the said person from our inquiries."

Windle said someone in the city must know who the offenders doing all the damage were, because it was specific tags recurring.

"Someone must be able to assist," she said. "We want to find everyone involved."
