Two searches are under way for people missing in Otago.

Senior Sergeant Brian Benn of Dunedin said a search has started at Mount Pisa near Cromwell for a farmer who did not return from checking his stock earlier in the day.

The farmer was eight hours overdue, Benn said.

A search has also started for a missing tramper in the Scott Creek area near Kinloch, Glenorchy.

Both searches are using helicopters, he said.
