Dozens fined for liquor ban breach

Dozens of people who breached the Alexandra Blossom Festival temporary liquor ban were fined a total of more than $19,000 yesterday in the Alexandra District Court by justices of the peace Rory Gollop and Daphne Stewart.
Police in Alexandra last month arrested almost twice as many people compared with last year during the festival's opening weekend.
Zac Lance Pearsey, 25, meat worker, of Croydon, admitted disorderly behaviour in Sunderland St, Clyde, on September 26.
Police prosecutor Tim Hambleton told the court Pearsey was walking through Clyde challenging residents and "pumping his arms out".
Pearsey's lawyer Justine Baird said her client accepted his behaviour was inappropriate but he denied trying to start a fight. He was fined $250.
Tyler John Hewson Aitken, 19, builder, of Tapanui, admitted disorderly behaviour in a public place. Fined $200.
Oliver James Webb, 18, of Cromwell, admitted possession of liquor in a public place. Fined $200.

Paul James Ashby, 23, meatworker, of Mataura, disorderly behaviour in a public place, Bridge Tavern car park, Millers Flat. Fined $400.
Shannon William Neville Black, 24, bricklayer, behaved in a disorderly manner in Sunderland St, Clyde. Fined $400.
Nadine Jade Rangiwai-Bradford, 18, sales assistant, of Alexandra, behaved in a disorderly manner in Centennial Ave. Fined $350.
