A 32-year-old Gore woman driven by jealousy into wrecking a woman's car was given a lengthy period of community work in the Gore District Court yesterday.

Noeline Robyn Butler, shop assistant, appeared before Judge Dominic Flatley on a charge of intentionally damaging a car on October 21.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Denise Harvey told the court Butler had a verbal confrontation with a woman at a Gore bar. Heavily intoxicated, she later found the woman's car parked on the street and damaged it with her bare hands and with stubbie beer bottles.

The next morning Butler went to the Gore police station and owned up to the damage, telling police the victim was in a relationship with her ex-partner and she was jealous, she said.

Judge Flatley said that was no justification for Butler's violent and destructive behaviour, no matter what her personal situation was.

Butler was sentenced to 150 hours' community work, nine months' supervision and ordered her to pay $2070 reparation.
