A Riverton man found guilty of sex offences against a 13-year-old was today sentenced to seven and a half years' jail.

John William Lonneker, 55, appeared in the Invercargill District Court before Judge Kevin Phillips for sentencing.

Lonneker was found guilty on four charges of sexual violation by unlawful connection and one of indecent assault on a child under 12, between January 30, 2001, and July 8, 2005.

During the trial last year the victim, now 13, said Lonneker touched her genitals and violated her on frequent visits to his house.

Judge Phillips sentenced Lonneker to seven and a half years' jail, with a minimum non-parole period of five years and ordered him to pay $10,000 reparation.
