Judge advises pair to seek legal advice

Two Mexicans who allegedly assaulted a man outside a bank machine on Camp St in Queenstown were advised to seek legal advice by a judge yesterday.
Mario Becerra Malo, 19, kitchen hand, and Luis Daniel Rivera-Caro, 18, kitchen hand, appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips in the Queenstown District Court.
Malo is charged with assault and injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, while Rivera-Caro is charged with injuring with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
The two men handed themselves in to police after they were identified by members of the public from CCTV images published in the media.
Judge Phillips told the men that if they were convicted there was a good chance they would go to prison, and he advised them to seek legal advice.
"If I was you two, I would be seeing a lawyer today," he said.
The pair were remanded on bail until April 12.
Judge Phillips made the unusual bail condition that the two did not associate with each other unless they were at home, because they live together.
