OPINION: Two Invercargill men left another needing 17 stitches in his face after they punched him, chased him around his house, hit him with a clothes airer and threw things at him, the Invercargill District Court was told yesterday.

Scott Michael Mainland, 19, farmer, and Alexander Bernard Zyskowski, 19, appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips charged with wounding the man with intent to injure him on January 31, intentional damage and burglary.

Zyskowski also appeared on a charge of driving at a dangerous speed on January 3.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Mills said the pair went to the victim's house where they punched him in the face. The victim tried to retreat into the house but Mainland and Zyskowski chased him around the house, where he was struck in the head with a bottle. The pair threw various items at the man, hit him with a clothes airer, tipped a washing machine over and put a wheelie bin through a door.

"The house appeared ransacked," Mr Mills said.

The victim suffered a large gash on his face, which needed 17 stitches, he said.
