A man headbutted a 16-year-old boy so hard his head bounced off a window, the Invercargill District Court was told yesterday.
Christopher Jason Briggs, 29, meatworker, admitted the assault when he appeared before Judge Kevin Phillips.
Police prosecutor Sergeant Rob Mills said the boy was walking along a Gore street on February 13 when Briggs stood over him. The boy cowered against a wall before Briggs headbutted him, Mr Mills said.
The force of the headbutt made the boy's head bounce off the window, he said.
Briggs told police he got angry when he was drinking, Mr Mills said.
Judge Phillips sentenced Briggs to 60 hours' community work and told him jail was approaching.
"You are getting to the stage where a prison sentence is becoming inevitable if you reoffend," he said.
