A woman admitted cultivating a cannabis supply that could have sold for more than $140,000 a year, when she appeared in Invercargill District Court yesterday.

Police prosecutor Sergeant Denise Harvey said the woman, who was granted interim name suppression by Judge Noel Walsh, was charged when police went to her home on May 18, following a report cannabis was being cultivated at the property.

Police found 47 cannabis plants in a garage, in what was described as a sophisticated indoor cannabis growing operation, and some dried cannabis, she said. The plants were growing under high-density lights and the setup also included a modified chest freezer, in which plants were being grown. The crop could have yielded the woman more than $40,000, with hypothetical estimates putting the annual income from the growing operation at $141,000, she said.

The woman was remanded on bail to October 4 for sentence.
