A Riversdale farmer who was fined $48,000 for discharging dairy shed effluent on to land will appeal against his fine in the High Court in Invercargill on November 5.

Gilbert Andrew Watt was sentenced in the Environment Court in August for discharging a contaminant, namely dairy shed effluent, on to land in circumstances that caused the contaminant to enter water, namely the Sandstone Creek, on or about March 30 last year.

Watt was found guilty after a defended hearing on July 16 and 17.
