A French Polynesian businessman appeared in the Queenstown District Court this week charged with assaulting a woman.

Rene Heremana Malmezac, 38, appeared before Judge Michael Turner charged with assaulting a female on December 16.

The court was told aspects of the alleged offending were disputed by the man's partner, who was in court during the hearing.

His lawyer indicated an application for a discharge without conviction was sought and the judge remanded the case for a disputed facts hearing on February 25.

Malmezac is involved with the Sat Nui Logistics Group based in Tahiti, which, according to the company's website, employs 250 people and generates $30 million annually in gross revenue.
