An Invercargill jury yesterday found a 21-year-old man not guilty of sexual violation.

The jury trial for Rion Mark Corlet, who was charged with sexual violation by unlawful sexual connection, started on Tuesday afternoon.

In his closing address, Corlet's lawyer, Hugo Young, said the issue had been one of mistaken identity and Corlet had believed the woman was consenting.

"This whole thing is a tragic mix-up brought about by an unusual set of circumstances and very unfortunate timing."
