A 20-year-old Invercargill man accused of sexually assaulting an 8-year-old girl at Oreti Beach has been further remanded in custody.

The man appeared before Judge Michael Turner in the Invercargill District Court today and was remanded in custody to Friday to enable legal aid to be addressed.

Judge Turner granted a continuation of name suppression to Friday.

Lawyer Simon Claver did not apply for bail on the man's behalf.

The man is facing two charges, one of indecently assaulting a child and one of sexually violating a female aged 8 years, both on February 2.

The alleged incident occurred in the sand dunes about 50 metres south of the main entrance to the beach.
