A 21-year-old Alexandra man is facing charges of child pornography that have been described as on the ''very high end'' of offensiveness.

The Child  Exploitation Unit, in Wellington, was instrumental in yesterday's arrest of the man on charges of downloading material of young boys.

The man faces six charges of distributing objectionable material after allegedly downloading objectionable movies and images which others could view.

The movies and images are alleged to show exploitation of young boys, and are believed to have been made available to others using peer to peer file sharing.

Senior constable Chris Blackford said the man's cyber trail had been flagged by Online Child Exploitation Across New Zealand team members who work within the police's Child Exploitation Unit.

The man's file was then forwarded to Queenstown detectives, who executed a search warrant and made the arrest yesterday.

The man had been living in Queenstown, but had since moved to Alexandra, and is expected to appear in the Queenstown District Court on Monday.
