Police are calling on the public for help after a 10-year-old girl was assaulted and robbed outside Riverton Fire Station in Southland last night.

Constable Steve Winsloe, of Tuatapere, said the attack took place about 8.30pm behind the station on Riverton Road.

Police are looking for two caucasian males, aged about 18-years-old, in connection with the incident.

One had black mullet-style hair, which was dyed blonde at the back, and wore an orange top, while the other wore a black top and blue Canterbury of New Zealand trackpants, Mr Winsloe said.

The girl suffered only minor injuries as a result of the attack and was not taken to hospital, he said.

The offenders made off with a pair of black and pink jandals and a black Hannah Montana singlet top belonging to the girl, Mr Winsloe said.

If anyone has information regarding the incident, they are asked to contact Constable Chris Maguire at the Riverton police station on (03) 2347070.
