Tararua police have issued a warning to drug growers after a raid at a Dannevirke home this morning that netted 65 cannabis plants.

About 10.30am police from Dannevirke, Pongaroa, Norsewood and Woodville searched an Allardice St property.

A 23-year-old Dannevirke man was arrested and appeared in the Dannevirke District Court today charged with cultivation of cannabis and unlawful possession of a firearm.

Police said further charges were pending.

A search of the house found three growing areas all of which were under lights, heat lamps, fans and dehumidifiers.

Sixty five plants in varying stages of maturity were found, as was 2.5kg of dried cannabis.

The raid was the latest in a series in the Tararua district over the past few months, including several in Dannevirke.

Senior constable Dave Kirk warned all would-be growers to keep looking over their shoulders "and wait for the inevitable door knock".
