OPINION: Save Fiordland chairwoman Daphne Taylor is reported (November 21) saying that she has the support of Helen Clark in her group's opposition to the Dart tunnel and monorail proposals.
Daphne Taylor continues ''As a UN member she [Helen Clark] will be able to help liaise with Unesco''.
Will Daphne Taylor publicly confirm, it is Save Fiordland's intention, with the aid of Helen Clark, to lobby Unesco to remove the World Heritage status if either of these projects get consent from the Conservation Department?
Daphne Taylor replies:
Save Fiordland is working hard to keep our World Heritage status. We know its worth, on every level. The threat to our World Heritage status is from the tunnel and the monorail, not from us. (Reference the Dresden Elbe Valley in Germany: whc.unesco.org/en/news/ 522.)
